best class for legendary survivor
I had been away from the game for a while and just came back recently. I was thinking of trying the challenge of getting this title on an alt that I would try for solo with heroes and henchies. I have all the chapters and GW:EN
What are a few of the best class combos per general consensus for getting this title, please? Oh, I have never done the high end 55 build grinds and stuff. I've always been your average Joe who quests and clears the regular zones. I mention this as since this is my play style I need a build that fits this. I heard the Paragon is good with a warrior secondary, but how about a /mo secondary instead for survival? Any ideas are welcome & thanks!! edit* sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum! Any class can earn it quite easily with a little care.
For sheer defensive power I'd pick a Paragon - higher armour and shield, ranged and with good defensive buffs. It's a defensive powerhouse. But on the other hand I would also pick a character that you enjoy playing. Survivor is can be a long and challenging route if you do it the traditional way - you'll want it to be fun and not a chore. Not to mention people often use it as a building block for GWAMM, another reason to make sure you enjoy the class. |

i would go for a hard hitting proff with monk for self heal so maybe a necro/monk..monk/necro...as an assassin or waiior ure gonna be first on the foes target list.
but tbh any proff with the correct build can get this title these days |

Paragon is the easiest for your first attempt and warrior is a good secondary (you also get Heal Signet for self healing). But if you intend to do this via quests etc and not Dwarven Boxing, then get a friend to help out. I have a friend who likes to do survivors and whenever he asks I bring my warrior and maxed heroes to help him through missions and quests. I have already done all of them so don't mind if he needs to leave and I don't think it would be funny to get him killed.

What about ranger secondary for poison/fire spears and troll unguent plus blind? I'm just thinking about a little more ranged dps with some survivorability w/o becoming mind numbingly boring. I read on the P/W imbagon build as being a defensive powerhouse. I'm just concerned I will simply be a defensive guy and quest real slow. I suppose with the right heroes I could overcome that, but just rolling things around looking for input.
thanks for the replies! |

id pick ele becasue you can usually kill anything before it kills you(especially w/ monks and staying behind minions).

i agree pick a character you will like playing if your going to try and get survivor by playing the game. i have 4 survivors, Ranger, Mesmer, Assassin, Paragon. as said here already, Paragon was easy going full defensive. ranger and mesmer were both pretty easy too. my Assassin was probably the most difficult of the 4. i loaded the sin up with defensive stuff when i played up front and only a handfull of missions i ran crit/barrage just to play it safe.

I did it on two ritualist (one on each account). First one was before the rit update (when spirits still had 3+ sec activation and SoS wasn't uber-powered), and was gained by just playing the game, finishing factions and nightfall, and capturing skills. Second one was a couple of weeks ago by killing Snow Wurms outside Boreal Station with scrolls.

Did it easily with my ranger in 2008, while doing the title, i stayed away from hard mode for obvious reasons and brought a pet as a meat shield (that can backfire though, when your pet gets killed your skills will recharge).
Whatever campaign you start your survivor in, i suggest getting heroes as soon as possible. |

Well, I went paragon. I do enjoy the class so far. I was going to go with ranger as a secondary. As a solo guy with heroes and henchmen I figure if i lay back and do dps and buffing I should be safe. Am I really giving up that much by not using warrior as a secondary considering my playstyle? I never played or saw played this imbagon build.
\thanks |

Well the problem with using an imbagon as a survivor is that you pump up the whole party's armor, except your own. This results in enemies targeting you. I wouldn't advise going imbagon.

Depends on method.
1. Safeway (Wurms outside Boreal Station): probably a Ritualist. Something that requires little input but can farm those baddies quickly and safely. 2. Kilroy: Assassin (or Paragon/A, Warrior/A) for the extra armor and damage from dagger mastery. 3. Just playing through (quests, missions, etc.): Whatever you're most comfortable with. Although I would suggest a mid/backliner. Ranger and Paragon are great choices for reasons listed above. But it can be done on any character, and, as mentioned, if you're prepping a character to be a title hunter, you might as well make it one you enjoy. |

I've done it the good old way with a monk and a necro, now i'm attempting it with a war and a ranger. From what i've seen doing it, the most important thing, IMHO, is that you know very well how to play the profession you have chosen. You have to know which builds are most effective (also offensive builds, doing big damage is the first defensive technique), what are the safest positions, which heroes' setup have the best sinergy with your builds, etc.. all these things come from experience, so i would suggest to use a character you already know very well.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I made up my mind with ranger as the secondary. So P/R it is. I like how they feel together. I will be reading around here for good builds, best heroes to bring, plus do some experimenting on my own.
Thanks again! |

Also check the PvX wiki for builds, their database is probably the one most up to date.

With Kathandrax hammers, Kilroy's Punchout among other things there really isn't a "best" class anymore. Every class can get Survivor with ease.

I'm gonna have a crack at it with my Monk (186k so far), cos my heroes can use the same builds as my vanq ones etc. it's a piece of cake so far. Probably not the fastest method but, it's just an if I get it (yay), if not, no bigee for me. Just something to do
